Day to Dream 2019

Posted on August 20, 2019

The Furniture Bank of Central Ohio and Morris Home Furniture presented the second annual Day to Dream Columbus on Saturday, July 27th.  The purpose for this local event is to shed light on the all too common struggles of lower-income families- not all children have beds to be tucked in at night. This year’s partners included the YMCA of Central Ohio ECRN+ and Franklin County Children Services Kinship Care.

Day to Dream was once again held at Capital University’s Capital Center where the children enjoyed activities including giant Jenga and face painting provided by staff and volunteers from the YMCA of Central Ohio. The Easton Chick-fil-A franchise once again generously provided boxed lunches for the children, while Aladdin Catering provided a continental breakfast for families and volunteers.

Monica Day, NBC4 morning news anchor served as emcee. Remarks were delivered by Furniture Bank President Steve Votaw; Samantha Stewart, Executive Director of ECRN+, a program of the YMCA of Central Ohio; Raquel Breckenridge, Director of Permanency Services for Franklin County Children Services; Marcus Moore, Vice President of Advertising and Marketing at Morris Furniture Company; and Dr. Jody Fournier, Provost and Vice President of Learning at Capital University. Monica lead a countdown to the big bed reveal when the curtains were parted and the children rushed in to discover their new beds. The joy in the air was contagious among the children and adults alike.

Through the combined efforts of dedicated volunteers, partner agencies and generous sponsors, Day to Dream was a resounding success! Now 50 more children in our community have brand new beds to call their own.
