The Furniture Bank recently received a generous grant from the Kiwanis Club of Columbus toward the Safe Sleep Program. The grant funds will enable the Furniture Bank to distribute safe sleep kits to infants and their families that gives them tools necessary to implement best practices for reducing sleep related deaths. Central Ohio’s infant mortality rate has risen over the last two years and is one of the highest in the country.
Participants are identified when they visit the Furniture Bank through one of our more than 75 partner agencies. The safe sleep kits include a Graco Pack n’ Play mobile crib, safe sleep blanket, an approved safe sleep pacifier and educational materials focused on safe sleep and injury prevention. Since 2015, approximately 375 safe sleep kits have been distributed. We are grateful to the Kiwanis Club of Columbus for their friendship and support of the Safe Sleep Program.
